Evelyn Cormier made her television debut on ’90 Day Fiancé’ season five. Any follower of the show knows of her passion for music and raw talent, but what you may not know is that this past December, she auditioned for the hit show, American Idol.
On Sunday, March 17th, her American Idol performance from December aired. She sang her own rendition of “Wicked Games” by Chris Isaak, while strumming her guitar. Her breathtaking performance absolutely stunned the judges.
Katy Perry said, “Literally, one of my favorite voices I’ve ever heard in my life.” She also advised Evelyn to pick the right songs in the future, because she is her favorite voice. Another judge, Lionel Richie, responded to Evelyn’s performance by saying, “You have a sound.. You have a sound that’s yours.. I don’t know how you’re doing it, and I’m thrilled we have you.. It’s something we want to show off.” Luke Bryan advised, “I think when you have a really amazing band behind you, its going to be something crazy.” (If you watched 90 Day Fiancé, Evelyn’s family was her band. Which makes us think, do you think they will continue to make music together after Evelyn’s American Idol debut?)
Evelyn was delighted by the positive feedback she received from the judges, which was inevitably followed up by handing over the infamous golden ticket, meaning she made it through to the next round in Hollywood.
Her husband, David Vázquez Zermeño, and her family were eagerly waiting for Evelyn outside of the audition room. They had no idea what had just happened, but when she opened the doors with a big smile and golden ticket in hand, they all hugged in celebration.
